Methodology of college score

The first step in ranking competitive online colleges was to create a list of all the online schools in the United States. To qualify as an “best affordable online college” an organization might be entirely online, offer a separate wing or part of its school (such as a “world campus”) through remote education, or simply offer a large volume of its degrees online. We then collected data on eight symbols:

  1. Tuition available (Weighted 19%)
  2. Freshmen Retention Rate (Weighted 14%)
  3.  past year Graduation Rate (Weighted 17%)
  4. Faculty Ratio for Students (Weighted 16%)
  5. Volume of Bachelor’s Degree Programs (Weighted 14%)
  6. Compass of Subjects Available to Study (Weighted 18%)
  7. College Prowler Academics Rating (if available)(Weighted 9%)
  8. Percentage of ”Best” or “Completely Agree” Student Poll Replies on College Prowler (if available) (Weighted 9%)

The last two indicators were given the least emphasis in the ranking because the data was not available for every school. For the last indicator, the College Prowler student polls refer to surveys that ask attendees to respond to questions regarding professor performance, academic support, efficiency of technology, selection of online classes, and more.

Each of the schools was given a rate based on its appearance and how gradually the category was weighted. For example, the school with the least costly tuition would get a score of two hundred in that level (the higher the score, the better), while the school with the greatest College Prowler academic degree would get a score of one hundred.

Apparently, if a school had the highest possible score in each of the eight categories, it would garner a total score of 1075. None of the schools reached this mark, but the University of Maryland University College came close (see below)! The scores, as well as overall rankings, are included for each school so you can get an idea of their performance.
